The ISEE and SSAT are used for admissions by independent and private schools across the U.S., whereas the SHSAT is specifically for admission to New York City’s specialized high schools.
The ISEE and SSAT offer both computerized and paper testing options, whereas the SHSAT is exclusively paper-based.
The ISEE and SSAT include an unscored essay, which is shared with admissions committees as a writing sample. The SHSAT does not have an essay.
The SSAT and SHSAT are longer, at 170 and 180 minutes respectively. The ISEE is shorter, at 130 minutes.
The ISEE, SSAT and SHSAT all use percentiles and scaled scores, from 760-940, 500-800, and 0-350 (approximately; varies by year) per section, respectively.
