Both are accepted by colleges nationwide, with no preference to either.
The ACT usually takes a little longer to prepare for, but its additional sections offer more opportunities to impress college admissions officers.
The SAT is a computerized MST (Multi-Stage Test) that adapts difficulty level section-by-section. The ACT is a regular test, whether taken on paper or online.
The ACT has a Science section and optional Essay, both of which are at the end of the test and therefore challenging to many test-takers. The SAT does not.
